Nelson M. Alemany
Chief Executive Officer and Director

Mr. Alemany serves as Chief Executive Officer and Member of the Board of Directors of First Bank of Miami. He joined the bank in November of 2009.

Mr. Alemany started his career in the credit-training program of JP Morgan Chase Bank in New York in 1982. He relocated to Miami, Florida in 1984 and worked at Intercontinental Bank until 1986 where he held the position of Branch Manager. He then joined Bank of America as a commercial lender in the Hialeah market. He was promoted to Senior Vice President and Consumer Banking Executive for the Miami-Dade Market in 1994. In this capacity, he was responsible for leading 36 branch locations. In 1996, Mr. Alemany joined City National Bank of Florida as Senior Vice President and Retail Banking Executive. He was promoted to Executive Vice President in 1998 and worked in various leadership and management roles until May of 2009.

He is a past Chairman of the Board of AIB (American Institute of Banking South Florida Chapter) where he served for six years between 1996 and 2002. He also served on the board of directors of The Miami Lighthouse for the Blind from 2001 to 2005. At the Lighthouse, he served as Chairman of the Finance Committee and was a member of the Executive Committee. Mr. Alemany also served on the board of directors of Junior Achievement of Greater Miami from 1990 to 1995. He was also involved with the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce through his work at Bank of America in the early 1990's.

Mr. Alemany earned his Bachelor's degree with a major in economics and a minor in psychology from Georgetown University in 1982.


Jorge I. Triay
President and Vice Chairman of the Board

Mr. Triay has been President of First Bank of Miami since 2001 and was appointed Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors in 2012. He also serves as an Executive Committee and Board Member of the Florida Bankers Association (FBA) and is past President of Cuban American Bankers Association (CABAI) currently known as Hispanic American Bankers Association (HABAI).

Mr. Triay is a graduate of Florida International University where he earned a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a Major in Banking and Finance. He also earned a certificate from the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS), University of Georgia in Athens.

During his time as a bank examiner with the State of Florida comptroller's office, he learned the banking business from the inside out. Mr. Triay has over 30 years of experience in the banking industry where he has held various leadership and management roles. His career began in 1981 when he joined Intercontinental Bank in Miami as a loan review officer and later as Vice President and Branch Manager. He then joined Capital Bank in Miami, as Vice President and Branch Manager of the main office banking center. Next, Mr. Triay gained lending experience and rose to the position of President, CEO and Member of the Board of Directors during his six years at Ready State Bank. While there, he helped facilitate a merger with Union Planters Bank.


Odoardo Sbarra
Executive Vice President, Senior Lending Officer and Director

Mr. Sbarra currently serves as Executive Vice President, Senior Lending Officer and Member of the Board of Directors at First Bank of Miami.

Mr. Sbarra moved to the United States from Italy to further his higher education and earned a Bachelor's of Business Administration Degree and a Master's of Business Administration Degree from the University of Miami.

His American commercial banking career started in 1999 with Espirito Santo Bank in Miami, Florida. He was later recruited by Union Planters Bank (currently Regions Bank) to join their Commercial Credit Group where he focused on Asset Based Lending Facilities; Floor Plan Lines of Credit; Owner Occupied Real Estate Finance; SBA lending and Trade Finance credits in excess of $1 million each. After Union Planters Bank, Mr. Sbarra joined BAC Florida Bank where he focused on Asset Based Lending; Commercial Real Estate Finance; Owner Occupied Real Estate Finance; Residential Lending and International Correspondent Bank Lending.

He joined First Bank of Miami in March 2002. As the Bank's Senior Lending Officer, he was placed in charge of directing the Bank's entire credit granting functions in January 2003. He was promoted to Executive Vice President in December of 2004 and in April of 2007 he was elected to serve on First Bank of Miami's Board of Directors.


Ralph J. Matheu
First Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer

Ralph, who has more than 28 years of experience in banking and Information Technology, joined First Bank of Miami in April of 2011.

Ralph began his career in 1983 with Datapro as a software developer focusing on banking solutions. In 1986, he joined Mercantil Services as head of Information Technology and was responsible for offering financial services to affiliated banks globally. In 1992, Ralph joined Ready State Bank as head of Information Technology. In 1994, he worked with Fiserv as Facilities Manager at Ocean Bank and was responsible for the bank's Information Technology function and led the effort to migrate the core banking system and various business applications in-house. Ralph then joined Ocean Bank and continued to lead their Information Technology group through 2011.He served on the board of directors of the South Florida Banking Institute from 1999 through 2006, leading several committees and organizational initiatives.

His educational background includes a Bachelor's degree with a major in Computer Science from Florida International University and a degree from the BAI School of Banking at Vanderbilt University, with a focus on Bank Operations and Technology.


Waison Lam
First Senior Vice President and Chief Financial Officer

Waison has over 10 years of experience in accounting and business management in the international financial services industry. Prior to joining First Bank of Miami, Waison was a Managing Director at SG Private Banking (Curaçao) N.V., a subsidiary of a global European financial institution. He started his career as Controller and throughout his 10-year career there worked his way up to an executive management role with leadership responsibility of an operation with over $10 million of annual revenue.

Waison holds a Bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a major in Accounting from University of Miami. He spent 7 years as auditor at KPMG before joining the financial services industry.

Reinaldo M. Hernandez
Senior Vice President

Rey has been in the banking industry for over 50 years. His tenure includes 13 years with Chase Manhattan Bank in New York and 14 years with Ocean Bank in Miami. Rey joined First Bank of Miami in February of 2008 as Head of the Private Banking Department.

Rey attended American Institute of Banking courses and the University of Virginia's Center for International Banking Studies where he obtained a certificate in International Lending Strategies. He is an active member of the Hispanic American Bankers Association and is also well known in the Latin American Community in Miami.

Odoardo Sbarra

Mr. Sbarra currently serves as Executive Vice President, Senior Lending Officer and Member of the Board of Directors at First Bank of Miami.

Mark W. Fleming
Senior Vice President, Senior Credit Officer and Special Assets Officer

Mark brings over 30 years of banking and finance experience. He has a strong background in risk management; credit approval and monitoring; underwriting and administration; business development and regulations. Mark began his banking career at Southeast Bank, N.A. as their Commercial Lending Officer managing a $20 million loan portfolio. In 1991, he worked for Eastern National Bank, N.A. where he started as a Credit Manager, but was promoted to Senior Lending Officer and managed the Bank's loan portfolio in excess of $275 million. He continued his career as a Senior Lending Officer at Beach Bank, N.A., where he was responsible for restructuring the Bank's credit department and loan grading policies and procedures in order to comply with regulatory guidelines. He then became a Business Development Officer at Intercredit Bank, N.A. and as such, was able to expand the Bank's loan portfolio by $14 million. The International Bank of Miami recruited Mark in 2008 as their Chief Credit Officer and acting Senior Lending Officer, a position for which he was required to have regulatory approval. He was tasked with managing a $700 million domestic and international loan portfolio, of which $160 million were criticized and classified assets. Until Mark joined our team, he worked as a private consultant/sub contractor requiring FDIC clearance.

In 1978, Mark earned his Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration and Finance from St. Leo College, which is now known as St. Leo University. He then obtained his Master's Degree in Business Administration from Nova University, which is presently known as Nova Southeastern University.

Diana brings more than 35 years of experience to First Bank of Miami. She began her career while still in high school, working as a teller at the International Bank of Miami. After graduating from Florida International University, she transferred to Popular Bank of Hialeah where she became the Assistant Vice President and Assistant Branch Manager. In 1986 she was employed by Westchester Bank as Vice President and Branch Manager always focusing on customer relations and business development. When Westchester Bank was sold to International Finance Bank, Diana continued her business development efforts as Vice President and Branch Manager of the Coral Gables Branch for another eight years. In March of 2003, Diana was offered the position of Senior Vice President in Private Banking at Premier American Bank, focusing primarily on business development in which she met all expectations. She was employed 6 years at Premier American Bank until she accepted a position with First Bank of Miami. Throughout her long career, Diana has always focused on business development and customer relations.

Janet brings over 15 years of banking experience to First Bank of Miami. She has a strong background in Bank Secrecy Act and Anti-Money Laundering (BSA/AML). Before joining our team, she worked in various positions within the BSA/AML departments of 1st United Bank and Total Bank. She began her career at Republic National Bank in the Operations Department. Janet also worked as a BSA/AML Consultant for a troubled financial institution to resolve BSA/AML regulatory issues and provided consulting services to other local banks.

In 2002, Janet earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration from Florida International University. She then received, in 2005, her Master’s Degree in Business Administration from Nova Southeastern University. Janet became a Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) in 2005 from the Association of Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialists (ACAMS). In 2006, she received a certificate from the Florida School of Banking at the University of Florida.

Esther Caselli
Vice President and Human Resources Manager

Esther has been with First Bank of Miami since 2010 and is our Vice President in charge of Human Resources. She has over 30 years of banking experience including a variety of administrative and management positions.

Esther began her banking career at Morgan Guaranty International Bank in the Money Transfer and Telex Departments. In 1983, she took a position as a Customer Service Representative and Branch Administrative Assistant at Intercontinental Bank. In 1988, Esther joined C & S Sovran as Administrative Assistant to the President and in 1992 she joined Bank of America to support the administrative needs of the Miami-Dade County Consumer Banking Executive who was responsible for 36 branches. In 1995, she returned to Intercontinental Bank as a Bank Officer/Executive Assistant to support the Retail Banking Executive with administrative and operational duties.

From 1996 until she joined the First Bank of Miami team, Esther was employed by City National Bank of Florida where she was appointed First Vice President and Private Banking Support Manager. Her responsibilities centered on operations management support for 20 branches and the Private Banking Division, management of all Human Resources issues, including salary administration, disciplinary process, and overtime management for the entire division.
